Police release name of man shot and killed in Wayne County on Saturday

NEWARK, N.Y. — New York State troopers said that 49-year-old Christopher VanCleaf is the man who was fatally shot near Tommy’s Bar in the village of Newark.
The shooting happened early Saturday morning on Murray Street. After arriving, Newark police found a man with a gunshot wound to the chest. He was taken to Newark-Wayne Hospital, where he died from his injuries.
New York State Police, the Village of Newark Police Department, and the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the shooting.
