ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) —Democratic Rep. Joe Morelle spoke on Tuesday about what issues he would focus on if re-elected in the 25th Congressional District.

He spoke at Vayo Street in Irondequoit about how he would take on large pharmaceutical companies to lower healthcare costs. Morelle also said he would introduce legislation intended to keep illegal guns of off streets, support abortion, and improve healthcare for veterans.

He took jabs at his opponent La’Ron Singletary, calling him and his supporters “extremists” for their support of pro-life policies and gun rights.

In a statement responding to Morelle’s comments, La’Ron Singletary said:

“After 28 years in the State Assembly and four years in Congress, career politician Joe Morelle has finally taken an interest in NY-25… and that’s not a good thing. With our Nation in a recession, families wondering how they’re going to pay for gas and food, and crime in Rochester and across the country rising at a record pace, Joe Morelle is more out of touch with the people of the 25th district than he thinks. It gets even worse with the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act, which will not only raise taxes on the middle class (JCT 7-30-22), but it will also unleash 87,000 IRS agents upon small business owners and the American people. Joe can take the credit on raising your taxes. My priorities will always be what is in the best interest of the people – Better education, more money in your pocket, making communities safer, and improving small businesses. Career politician Joe Morelle has had 32 years to do something…are you better off today than you were four years ago when he took office?”
