RG&E says only 31% of average power bill goes to utility operations and profit
ROCHESTER, N.Y. – After a years-long News10NBC investigation into major billing and customer service issues, Rochester Gas and Electric (RG&E) says it is trying to be as transparent as possible with its customers.
The utility has designed a new graphic to help residential electric customers understand your bill better.
The bill explainer goes through each line item on the average bill to explain what it is and where the money collected from it, goes. RG&E’s intention is to point out that some of those charges are influenced by external factors and regulatory requirements, not controlled by the utility.
According to RG&E, roughly 64% of the average bill is government charges and supply costs, 31% goes to RG&E and used for operations, maintenance, customer service, administrative costs and profit and the remaining 5% are authorized recovery mechanisms which can amount to a charge or credit depending on the weather, hedging, storm preparedness and recovery.
