ROCHESTER, N.Y. — 27-year-old Ahmed Ali on Tuesday pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the 1st degree for the strangulation death of his wife and mother of his children, Arbay Chivala.

On August 1, 2021, Rochester Police Officers were called to a home on Argo Park where they found the body of Arbay Chivala. After a detailed investigation, it was determined that her husband, Ahmed Ali, strangled Arbay to death and left his young children with his wife’s body in the home.

Ahmed Ali is expected to be sentenced to 22 years in prison. After serving this sentence, it is likely that he will be deported.

“Arbay Chivala was a young mother with her life ahead of her, and Ahmed Ali stripped that away,” said Monroe County District Attorney Sandra Doorley. “Ahmed Ali was supposed to love his wife, instead he took her life and he will now have a long time to reflect upon his actions in the New York State Department of Corrections. We hope he will use his time in the Department of Corrections to reflect on the suffering he has caused his children and the rest of Arbay’s family.”

Ahmed Ali will be sentenced on January 10, 2023, in front of Monroe County Court Judge Vacca.
