ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — RPD said one of its officers sustained multiple injuries while he was running after a suspect in a Monday morning shooting.

The officer was taken to the hospital, where he was treated and released. RPD said he had injuries to his lower and upper body, but didn’t say what caused the injuries.

During the foot chase, officers arrested Narasheod Johnson for the shooting of a 40-year-old man on Emerson Street and Curlew Street. Johnson, 28, was charged with two counts of assault and criminal possession of a weapon.

Police responded to the shooting on Emerson Street at around 1:15 a.m. and officers applied a tourniquet to save the life of the 40-year-old. An ambulance took the man to the hospital and he is expected to survive.

While traveling to the call, officers saw a Toyota Camry fleeing and soon identified the driver as Johnson. RPD said they took Johnson into custody on Sherman Street.

Johnson is being held in Monroe County Jail.
