ROCHESTER, N.Y. An appearance ticket. That’s what a 14-year-old got after being arrested for shooting a 15-year-old earlier this week, leaving him critically wounded. Police say he used a shotgun and the shooting happened Tuesday.

After the young teen was given an appearance ticket he released to a family member.

The shooting happened on Ringle Street. So far police haven’t told us what led to the incident but did say the 15-year-old was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital.

RPD Lieutenant Greg Bello tells News10NBC the victim is currently listed in critical but stable condition. Bello also says the teen suspect was arrested near the scene of the shooting, where the shotgun was recovered. Bello also says the community needs to take a close look at this.

“The fact that a 14-year old had a shotgun, and a 15-year old is being shot, of what we’re doing as a community to prevent incidents like this as well,” Bello said. “Not just the police department. We respond for the 911 call. We can do what we can with some crisis intervention in advance, but ultimately all of us as a community need to get together and wonder why 14, 15-year-olds are around shotguns,=.”

The suspect has since been referred to Family Court. Police will not release the names of these teens due to their ages.
