A movie with a message: Local film screens at The Little
ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Race Eberhardt got the Hollywood treatment Sunday.
Race, dressed in a tux, attended the premiere of “Strait Undercover.” The locally-made action-comedy flick stars Race, who is from Rochester.
Rather than typecasting Race, director Benjamin Gonyo made a conscious effort to avoid mentioning that he has Down syndrome.
In the film, Race plays a small-town USDA agent who takes the fight to an agriculture conglomerate that is secretly housing “Terminator seeds” and a Nexxus robot.
After the premiere of the film, Race celebrated with family and friends outside the theater. He says this project would not have been possible without Gonyo, his friend and director who always believed in his ability to captivate audiences.
“Actually he’s my local director from Fish & Crown Creative company. He’s an amazing director because he’s been doing this over the past three years. Since I met Ben back in 2019, he’s been begging me, ‘Race, be part of the movie,'” Race said.
The people behind the film say it will also be shown at Sundance Film Festival, Slamdance Film Festival, and the Toronto International Film Festival.
