ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Dr. Carmine Peluso will be the next superintendent of the Rochester City School District.

The Board of Education voted unanimously for him in a special emergency meeting on Thursday night. Peluso has been the interim superintendent since September. Now he has the permanent job.

He’s been in education for almost 30 years, serving as a teacher, principal and chief of schools just to name a few. Here’s what he told us last night.

“This board, has been nothing but keeping the focus on doing what’s right for our kids and our families, and being supportive,” Peluso said. “They do what’s right for our kids, they’re coming together like a board that is advocating and wanting to move this district forward and I am so happy that I have the opportunity to work with them.”

As interim super, Peluso prioritized three initiatives, a new contract with the district’s teachers union, advancement of the facilities modernization project, and a campaign for student recruitment. His appointment takes effect immediately.
