ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Changes are coming to the Avenue Blackbox Theatre and the Joseph Avenue community. The theatre announced on Monday that it has received a combination of grants and donations totaling $190,000 dollars.

The money will go towards improvements to the building, hiring new staff, and the development of new job opportunities in the neighborhood.

The theatre says it will continue to fundraise to address jobs for people in Rochester, technology upgrades, and operational costs.

“The very foundation of what the avenue is, is recognizing that Joseph Avenue matters, arts on Joseph Avenue matter, jobs on Joseph Avenue matter,” said Reenah Golden, Founder and Executive Artistic Director, Avenue Blackbox Theatre.

Young adults already benefit from current opportunities at the theatre, including training, and arts and theatre tech programs.
