ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Rochester Police say Ricky Elliott, 39, is the name of the man who was shot and killed early Sunday morning. It happened at the corner of Day Place and Columbia Avenue.

Investigators believe the city resident was killed after some sort of fight on the street. Police say they got to the scene at 2:12 a.m. and found Elliott shot multiple times. He was rushed to Strong Memorial Hospital where he died.

Deja Vazquez lives one block away from where the shooting happened and says she heard the gunshots and says that while she feels safe in her home, she isn’t sure anything can be done to stop the violence.

“My dogs. They always overreact to everything. I heard my dogs barking and then I heard it and I’m just like, there’s always something going on. People still do what they do. It’s hard to stop the crimes. I’m just being realistic,” Vazquez said.

No suspects are in custody. The Rochester Police Department Major Crimes Unit continues to investigate and is asking anyone with information to call 911.
