GANANDA, N.Y. (WHEC) — New York State Police and other agencies arrested a 17-year-old student from Gananda High School for making a terrorist threat on Wednesday.

Members of the school community notified state police around 12:30 p.m. that a student had posted a picture of an assault weapon on social media. State troopers and the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department responded to the school, then met with schools officials and Macedon Police Department about the incident.

The student was taken into custody off school grounds and authorities interviewed him about the incident with a parent present. Later, the student was charged with making a terrorist threat, which is a felony, and was arraigned on Wednesday night.

"State Police Officials want to acknowledge the fast action of the Gananda School Superintendent, in notifying law enforcement immediately to ensure a speedy resolution to this matter," said a statement from NYSP.

State police said this was an isolated incident.
