SODUS, N.Y. (WHEC) — Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) was in Sodus to call for help for Lake Ontario water levels.
With higher lake levels and the potential for spring flooding, he announced a multi-million dollar fix to Charles Point breakwater.
Schumer also called on the International Joint Commission, the agency that oversees lake levels, to overhaul Plan 2014.
Many blame the plan for Lake Ontario flooding in recent years.
“Well I think it's not working and they have to start from scratch and come up with a better one,” Schumer said. “But the most immediate thing they should do, the Canadians and the Americans, is let more water out so we don't have such high flooding this year that we had last year.”
Lake Ontario floods have caused millions of dollars in damage to Wayne County homes, businesses and beaches.
Schumer secured $4.5 million in federal money and wants another $1.5 million in funding approved.
