Family and friends gathered at 3 p.m. to honor Atkinson's life.

The Mayor of Clyde, Jerry Fremow, released this statement regarding the gathering:

"As we as a community continue to mourn the loss of this young man, let’s all remember to take time to send our thoughts and prayers to all parties involved. Any loss is a tragic loss but the sudden loss of such a young person has made an impact on the entire Clyde community. Children are our future and we have lost a part of that.  To the family, friends, and our community members let’s show compassion in our actions. Hold your family tight and take the time to thank the first responders who are also grieving this loss."

There has been no word on funeral arrangements at this time.
