CLYDE, N.Y. (WHEC) - A search for a missing teen ended with a dangerous car accident on Monday night.
Around 7:30 p.m. Monday, the Seneca County Sheriff's office was helping locate a missing teen when they got a call reporting a stolen vehicle.
Deputies found the vehicle and the teen behind the wheel on State Route 414 in Wayne County and attempted to block the vehicle, but were unable to contain it within the driveway.
The vehicle then traveled southbound at a high rate of speed where Deputies observed it straddling the centerline of the road and driving into the oncoming lane creating an extremely dangerous traffic hazard.
Deputies remained at a safe distance in an attempt to get the Juvenile to slow down but the vehicle continued at a high rate of speed until it collided with the rear axle of a tractor-trailer at the New York State Thruway exit.
The juvenile was initially treated by North Seneca Ambulance and flown by Life Net to Strong Memorial Hospital for further treatment. The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured.
The investigation is still ongoing.
