SODUS POINT, N.Y. (WHEC) — Crews were in Sodus Point Tuesday putting out sandbags in front of Lake Ontario shoreline properties.
The Village says they're putting them in the most vulnerable spots.
Right now, Lake Ontario’s water level is at about 247 feet, about nine inches higher than it was last year according to the Army Corps of Engineers.
In 2017 and 2019, Lake Ontario experienced record flooding.
“You never know when it's gonna come, although this year, it's coming slowly and it probably won't be as bad as we originally thought… the sooner we're protected, the sooner we can all relax,” Mayor Dave McDowell said.
McDowell said they expect to finish sandbagging by the end of the week.
They're also expecting a delivery of water pumps.
