News10NBC Meteorologist Robert Speta joined the team in September 2017.

A self-proclaimed weather geek, Robert grew up in Western New York and spent his entire childhood living through lake effect snow and experiencing the summer time thunderstorms this area has to offer.

After high school Robert decided to see the world and served seven years in the US Navy as an Aerographers Mate. The Navy provided Robert with the opportunity to forecast in over 30 countries around the world, including Japan. He spent eight years there, including five at NHKWORLD in Tokyo, after separating from the Navy, broadcasting to over 80 countries worldwide discussing the big weather events around the globe.

You may have also found Robert on several networks including CNN and TWC, documenting severe weather events across Eastern Asia.  Robert has been through several typhoon eyewalls, been in a building hit by a Tornado, witnessed volcanic eruptions from the base of an exploding mountain, seen tsunami damage first hand and waded through some of the deepest snow on earth.

After all that Robert is excited to be back home and still feels that forecasting for the micro-climate of Rochester and documenting the weather story of this area is his greatest challenge yet.

During his free time, Robert enjoys the hiking trails of Western New York or getting creative at the ski resorts after a deep snowfall.
