New Jersey native Samantha LaRocca is excited to continue to pursue her career in Upstate New York, where she has spent the past two years. Samantha comes to WHEC from WETM. Prior to being the Morning Meteorologist at WETM, Samantha spent a year at WLOX on the Mississippi Gulf Coast learning the ins and outs about the business.
Samantha credits her news and weather skills to these positions and the many internships she completed while in college. She got her on air start in 2014 doing the local weekend weather cut-ins during Good Morning America.
Her passion for weather made Samantha want to continue her studies further in Meteorology at Mississippi State University. She earned her bachelor of arts in communication with a concentration on broadcast radio/television from Monmouth University. As a staff member in the student managed on campus television station (Hawk-TV), Samantha launched Monmouth University’s first weather segment called "Weather You've Heard."
She got her start in news while interning at ABC’s 7 On Your Side in New York, New York. There she researched and developed stories for the nightly news. As a college senior, she interned at FOX 29 in Philadelphia, where she realized her passion for weather forecasting. There, she was able to work alongside accomplished, award-winning meteorologists, to fine tune her expertise and apply what she learned in the classroom to the field. This experience led her to this next career chapter at WHEC.
When she is not in the studio, Samantha enjoys working out, being outdoors and spending time with loved ones. Don’t be fooled by Samantha's sweet exterior; this girl knows how to rock! Samantha is an accomplished musician and has been playing the drums since she was six years old.
