ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC)— This is for all the families driving somewhere for Thanksgiving and during the rest of the holiday season.
It may not be top of mind right now but trust News10NBC’s Brennan Somers it’s very important.

"Are the rest stop restrooms open on the Thruway?"

The answer is yes and no.

Yes, restrooms are open if you need to make a pit stop along I-90. But no, not all of them.

10 Thruway rest stops are shut down for construction. This means no restrooms, no shops, no food. It’s gas-only where work is going on. So be careful planning out your trip!

This is the first phase of a huge overhaul of every service plaza. There are 27 statewide, 23 are getting rebuilt. Four will see upgrades.

Do you have to hold it the whole trip? No. No two consecutive rest stops going the same direction will be closed for work at the same time. It’s not the usual 40-50 miles between exits but it is roughly double that, waiting an hour or longer to find a restroom that is open.

One other thing: At the rest stops that are open waiting for work to start, some of the restaurants may already be closed ahead of construction.
