Your guide to the opening weekend of Roc Holiday Village

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The fourth annual Roc Holiday Village at Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Park opens on Friday at 4 p.m.

The winter village features vendors, ice staking, cozy fire pits, visits with Santa, and live music. The 16-day festival runs from Wednesday through Sunday from December 2-13. Last year, the festival drew more than 100,000 people. Here is your guide to the holiday fun this weekend. You can see a complete list of events at the winter village here.

Friday, December 2

At the Triple-O Lodge bar, you can engrave a Stella Artois chalice on Friday, December 2 and Thursday, December 15 from 7 to 9 p.m. During the chalice engraving, the Stephanie Tateiwa Trio will perform at the lodge.

Saturday, December 3

After the annual Liberty Pole Lighting, there will be a latern parade from there to Roc Holiday Village at 5 p.m. Community members can make their own festive lanterns and carry their lit creations. Mayor Malik Evans and other city leaders will join the parade.

Also, at the ice rink between 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., you can spin the wheel for a chance to win Amerks and Knighthawks merchandise.

Sunday, December 4

The Ryan Callahan Foundation Ice Hockey Skills Competition will be on Sunday, December, 4. The competition includes handling skills with sticks and pucks, passing into mini nets, and fastest skater in a circle.

The first visit with Santa is also on Sunday, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Santa’s Workshop within the village. There will also be a Kwanzaa Celebration from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the T-Mobile Gingerbread House.

Village hours: The winter village is open on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. It’s also open on Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m, and Sundays 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The bar will be open for an extended hour until 10 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday, and 11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. The ice rink will be open, weather permitting, on Wednesdays and Thursday 4 to 10 p.m., Saturdays 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Sundays 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Santa’s Workshop will be open Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m; Saturdays 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
