ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Monroe County Sheriff’s deputies say three cars were stolen from the Bob Johnson dealership on West Henrietta Road on Friday.

Deputies say one of those stolen cars, a Kia, was recovered nearby with damage to the rear passenger window and steering column. Investigators have yet to find the two other cars, a 2020 Kia Soul and a white Kia Sportage.

Deputies responded to the dealership just after midnight after getting reports of stolen cars. News10NBC’s photojournalist on scene said the suspects damaged the dealership’s gate and it appears the suspects arrived in a car.

Local leaders have raised alarms about an increase in thefts for Kia and Hyundai models because of how-to videos circulating on social media. Leaders also say the two automakers failed to add proper anti-theft technology, making the cars easy to hotwire with a USB cable.
