ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Police are investigating a murder at the shelter after a man was stabbed to death Sunday night. Another man was also stabbed but survived.

Parts of House of Mercy are still a crime scene. Leaders and counselors from Salvation Army said they were there Monday morning and it was still in complete disarray.

The Salvation Army says it took in about five people from the house of mercy. They were given a bed inside the adult rehabilitation center.

The nonprofit says it’s expecting to welcome more folks from the homeless shelter within the next day or two. Leaders who were there helping out say what happened was very traumatic for many.

“They were pretty wound up, they had slept outside all night long, they were confused they were traumatized by what they witnessed, or things that had happened one guy said the man who was stabbed to death, he was right beside him, that’s traumatizing and we want to reach out to the community and say we have beds,“ said Captain Darlene Clark, who works with the Rehabilitation center.
